Party for Huang Niu
Remember alumus Huang Niu, Huang Zhongfu? He is the 93 year old alumus (class 1931, if I remember correctly) who visited us in early April this year right before he went back to Beijing to participate in the celebration of the 89th anniversary of our alma mater. At that time, more than twenty of us had a dinner party with him at a local restaurant. Many of us were impressed by him. Out of our expectation, he is coming again this weekend. I heard he didn't visit the San Diego area this frequently before. He lives in New York City. The last time visited, he traveled by himself on Greyhound bus all the way here.
So we would like to have a get-together party for him. A reservation has been made at:
New Shanghai Chinese Restaurant (or Ping Ju Ge in Chinese)
4681 Convoy Street, San Diego
(858) 569-4833
(Map shown below.)
The time is at 3:30pm on Saturday September 23, 2000.
Don't miss this chance to meet Huang Niu and many other alumni from the local area. We will see you there...

July-15 Party
![]() |
The sun was shining brightly. Breeze from the ocean was cooling the air
down. We managed to get two picnic tables, a grill and plenty of space
both beneath the trees, and in the open to set up the volley ball court as shown
in the picture. The food was great in quantity and quality.
In a word, as can be witnessed by all the participants, we had a nice party, and should have more like this!
This picture above was taken after the volley ball game. By that time, some friends, including two of the speakers had left. We should have taken more pictures at earlier times.
1:30 - Valley and other ball game / Water sports /
First Announcement with the Preliminary Program
Dear Tsinghua alumni and friends:
Welcome back from the July 4th weekend. Most people like
long weekends, but, once one like this has come and gone,
many also find it hard to think about the time before the
next one comes up. Perhaps it will be different this
time. Two weeks after this long weekend that just passed
by, with one normal weekend in between for everybody to
have a brief break, we are going to have a early summer
get-together!
Tsinghua Alumni Association in San Diego (TAASD) is happy
to invite all alumni from both campuses (Hsinchu and
Beijing), and their family members, and all friends with
any type of Tsinghua ties to a picnic/potluck party. If
you taught at Tsinghua, or your parents teach at Tsinghua,
you are of course invited. If you have a good friend who
went to Tsinghua, or you used to commute pass Tsinghua's
gate, you are also welcome to join us, just as we enjoyed
our last gathering with friends like these.
As we discussed in mid June, the party will be on Saturday,
July 15, 2000. The place will be at the picnic area on the
small island in the middle of Mission Bay Park (see details
below). It's a beautiful water-front spot with plenty of
free parking space (especially in the morning) and a good
combination of open / shaded area on the lawn. Swimming
area is nearby. Boat/kayak renting are also available on
the island.
If you are planning on comming, please reponse to either
bowang88@hotmail.com or wwzhou@yahoo.com with total number
of adult in your party by July 11. We'd like to be better
prepared for the event with your help.
Hope to see you all on July 15!
Thanks all!
